So many of you written to me asking when I will host a brunch in Denver, San Francisco, and so many other cities, that I decided to host a virtual brunch online.

Are you a bisexual woman with a story to share?  Do you want to connect with other bi-girls around the country and in Canada?  Have a question for Miss Bliss?

Tonight is your opportunity to chat live with Miss Bliss and her fabulous bi-friends.

HAPPY BISEXUAL AWARENESS DAY!

All around the country and the world, bisexuals are coming together to celebrate our unique culture.  So many events are happening today and this weekend to demonstrate that bisexuality is a stable identity with a rich history.

According to Wikipedia, Bisexual Awareness Day began in 1999 when three activists, Wendy Curry, Michael Page, and Gigi Raven Wilbur decided the bisexual community needed more visibility.  Wilbur said, “Ever since the Stonewall rebellion, the gay and lesbian community has grown in strength and visibility. The bisexual community also has grown in strength but in many ways we are still invisible. I too have been conditioned by society to automatically label a couple walking hand in hand as either straight or gay, depending upon the perceived gender of each person.”

So what can you do to celebrate your unique sexuality and bring more awareness of bisexual culture to the world?

1. Tell a good friend you are bisexual. You just might discover s/he is bisexual too!
2. Attend a bisexual event in your city. (Please visit my EVENTS page at blisswarrior.com for listings or visit BiNetUSA.)
3. Organize an event for bi-girls in your area. Amazing bliss warriors have organized events in LA, NY, Albuquerque, Seattle, Detroit, Toronto, and Miami and so can you!  Being a leader is scary at first, but the rewards are endless.
4. Volunteer at your local Gay and Lesbian Center. We will only be the big “B” in LGBT when we make ourselves an active part of the community.  This weekend I’m volunteering at the Hollywood LGBT center, calling folks to ask them to vote no on Proposition 8 - the legislation attempting to overturn gay marriage in California.  It’s a great way to meet new people and show our community is active and vital.
5. Join a bisexual group. There are more and more bisexual networks opening up online. Almost all of them can be found at the wonderful new myspace page BiNetUSA has created.  Just check out their Top Friends and you will find an organization near you.

To celebrate Bisexual Awareness Day, the marvelous team at Hotel Bliss is bringing you a new service:

BI-MONTHLY BI ONLINE CHATS WITH BLISS WARRIOR AT HOTEL BLISS.

Starting next Tuesday the 30th at 6pm PST and at 9pm EST, all Hotel Bliss members are invited to join me for online chats about bisexual issues.  For two hours, everyone who is a member can share stories, ask questions and seek support in an anonymous, private forum.  (Even though you are logged in, you can choose to be anonymous in the chat, just make up a name.)  The first topic will be, “What is wonderful about being bisexual and what is difficult?”

BI-PARTISANSHIP: OR, IT’S TIME TO SLEEP WITH MEMBERS OF ALL POLITICAL PARTIES

Dearest Readers,

As you know, I am not one to discuss politics but recent tensions around the upcoming presidential election got me thinking.    I am not a Democrat nor Republican, but I do know this:  we all want less division and fighting between parties and more cooperation.  What we desire is BI-partisanship in Washington.

How can we get Washington to start working together to find better solutions to the many problems facing our country?

Well, we can work on having less division and fighting between us.

I am calling on all of you bi-girls to put the BI back into bipartisanship.  If we are as evolved and ahead of the curve as we claim to be, we should not say, “Fuck the other party.”  Instead, we should fuck the other party.

So if you are a Republican, it is time to put politics aside and find a cute Democratic girl.  Look for a vegetarian who is into yoga.  She’s probably a good cook and, after dessert, watch what she can do  with her flexible body.

And if you are a Democrat it is time to find a sexy Republican.  She may just take you out to the shooting range where you both can fire off semi-automatics together.  (My friends say this is a great stress reliever and oddly sexually stimulating.)  After, she’ll take you back to her beautiful home and you can ravage each other until you forget which party either of you belong to.  And, let’s face it, great sex may be the best thing to ever happen to the Republican Party.

And if you’re a Libertarian, Green, Freedom or Independent, go ahead and fill your calendar up with dates with girls from all the other parties.  You may just end up changing the world.

Once you’ve scheduled your date, do not - and I mean never, ever, ever - bring up politics.  Instead, focus on what you have in common: enjoying marvelous, filthy, crazy, kinky sex.

So celebrate bipartisanship by sleeping with as many folks from other parties as you can.

You may just bring this country closer together.

WHEN YOUR GUY FRIENDS FIND OUT

Last November, I posted a blog entitled, “When Your Straight Friends Find Out” which discussed the four most common reactions girls have when you come out as bisexual.  But your male friends also react in all sorts of ways when they find out you are bi.   Here’s a list of the seven most common male reactions and tips to help you know how to respond.

UNFORTUNATE THINGS MALE FRIENDS MAY SAY WHEN THEY DISCOVER YOU ARE BISEXUAL:

1.  WHEN CAN I JOIN IN?
Unlike girls, when your guy friends find out you are bi, the first question they may ask is, “When can I join in?”  Sadly, the ugly myths of bisexual promiscuity can make very nice guys say very lame things.  Even worse and more likely, they may ask your man this question rather than ask you, as many guys feel it is more socially appropriate to get your guy’s “permission” first.

2.  WHEN DOES THE ORGY START?
Like many very straight people, very straight men automatically associate bisexuality with swingers and group sex.   This can lead to some awkward situations if a male friend knows you are bi.  Some men assume if you are bisexual, every party you throw (or attend) will end in a big orgy.  Nothing is more awkward than bringing your guy friend to a party only to have him keep asking you, “When do people start taking off their clothes?”    Don’t worry, though.  If he’s a good friend, he’ll learn that even bisexuals attend parties that don’t end in orgies.

3.  THAT’S GREAT, JUST DON’T BE BI AROUND ME
Just because your friend is a guy does not necessarily make him sexually open or accepting.  If he is sexually uptight, he may “understand” you are bi, but never want to hear about it.  In fact, he can become judgmental, tense, and wary and not be able to act “normal” around you for awhile.  Sometimes, Puritanical attitudes can even end the friendship.  If this happens, remember that anyone willing to end a relationship after knowing who you truly are is not a real friend and you may be better off without that person in your life.

4.  WHEN CAN I MEET YOUR FRIENDS?
Guys are optimists and assume if you are bi, that all of your girlfriends are bi, too.   You may be lucky like me and have a large number of bi-girl friends.  This does not mean that your guy friend is the right guy to date any of them.  Many guys want a bi-girl for a sexual playmate, not a relationship.  Be careful and NEVER hook up one of your male friends with a bi friend unless he is a true gentleman.  If he is a potential user, make sure to tell him why you will not introduce him to your friends.  He may just learn how to respect bi women.

5.  CAN YOU TALK TO MY GIRLFRIEND FOR ME?
Guys may pressure you to try to talk their girlfriend into “becoming” bi.  This is absolutely offensive and you can tell them that.  If his girlfriend wants to get to know you, become your friend, and then asks you about bisexuality, that is one thing.  But it is not your job to talk any girl into “turning” bi for a man.  Tell him if she wants to call you, you would be open to talking to her about sexuality, but you are not going to instigate that conversation.

6.   SO WHEN ARE WE GOING TO HOOK UP?
Some guys assume if you are bi, that you will sleep with anything that moves.  Therefore, the reason you are sharing your bisexuality is because you want to sleep with him.  Educate your friends and let them know that bisexuals can be monogamous; even if they are not, they are incredibly picky and not to be confused with an easy mark.

7.  IF YOU’RE BI, I CAN SAY WHATEVER RUDE SEX THOUGHT COMES INTO MY HEAD

Unfortunately, some male friends see sexual openness as a sign that they can make inappropriate comments to you.   This can be anything from crude jokes about sex or lesbians to rude statements about your personal life.  They also may believe that knowing you are bi gives them permission to ask your man to share details.  If a male friend is crude to you, make sure to say something and help him learn this behavior is unacceptable.  Being bisexual and honest about it does not mean that others have the right to vulgarity.

The good news is you select the friends around you, so if you are lucky, your male friends will become closer to you when they know you are bi.  They may relate to you better because you both love women.  After you have dated a girl, you can feel for guys because you know first-hand how crazy women can be.  Wonderful too, but you know what I mean.  And, hey, what’s more fun than celebrating beautiful women with your best guy friends?

WHAT SHE FORGOT - ANOTHER FRIDAY NIGHT BEDTIME STORY

“Hey, girl, sit at the bar and I’ll be right over,” she says as she carries a tray of drinks to a booth in the back.  You watch her hips switch back and forth as she walks away and am once again overwhelmed by her casual beauty.

At the bar, you pull up a stool and wonder if you overdressed.  Maybe you should have worn jeans; it seems a little silly to be hanging with a girl in her workplace in a tight black dress and platform heels.  But you wouldn’t feel pretty in jeans and, to be honest, it’s already a fight to feel secure next to her perfect dancer’s body. Plus, you haven’t seen her since that night you first kissed and then went home together.

You worried hooking up with a girl had flipped her out, but just when you were going to ask her, she called and invited you here. To be in her company again thrilled you, so you ignored the quiet voice in your head that said, “If she liked you, she’d have seen you right away.  She wouldn’t wait a month to call if she was as into it as you are.  Inviting you to see her at work is a way to create distance…”

You shake your head and order a vodka and soda and wait for her return.

The bartender asks how you know Sabine.  You say, through mutual friends in New York.  “I love New York,” he says, and you nod with a smile, hoping he doesn’t ask anymore questions.   Luckily, he likes talking more than listening, and fills up the time describing his favorite New York restaurants.

When Sabine finally finishes with her table and joins you, the first thing you say is, “I was just telling him about how we met in New York.”

For a second she lifts an eyebrow and then smiles.  “Those were great times,” which almost sounds true.  It would be too awkward to say we met in a gay bar.  The friendship would certainly be suspect, then.

She sits on the stool next to you and says, “How have you been?”

Aware of the bartender, you say, “Great.  How about you?”

“Well, I met a boy…”

Your heart stops but you try to appear happy for her.  “That’s great.  Where?”

“I went to a club with some friends and this guy asked me to dance, and he is a fierce dancer.  We danced all night and the crowd stopped just to watch us.”  She smiles and says, “And the sex… Oh my God!  He is unreal.  Sometimes, he’s almost too much for me.”

Hearing about her fucking some dancer makes your jaw tighten.  Doesn’t she know who she’s talking to?  Doesn’t she have some inclination that you may not want to hear about her current guy?  “When did you meet him,” you ask, trying to sound casual.

“I don’t know…  A month or so ago?”  Right around the time the two of you hooked up.

Feeling bitter, you want to ask if it was before or after the night she soaked your bed with her juices, but you don’t.  Instead, you ask, “So is he your boyfriend?”

She laughs.  “Oh, goodness, no!  He’s just my summer distraction.”  Looking up, she sees a new table and says she’ll be back in a sec.

You order a second drink and your stomach aches.  Did she forget how intense the sex had been between you?   Because you remember, and one night dancing with some guy wouldn’t make you forget.

Closing your eyes, you go back in time and see see her approach you at the bar in West Hollywood.  You couldn’t believe a hot girl was coming onto you in your favorite gay bar.  Surrounded by men, she discovered you and bought you a drink.

“Come here often,” she said jokingly.

“No.  But now that I know gorgeous girls come here every once in awhile, I might just come out more often.”

“Cute shoes,” she squealed, and the two of you spent the next ten minutes complementing one another.  “Oh, look, a booth is opening up.  Let’s sit.”  She grabbed your hand and led you through the dancing male bodies until you reached a darkly lit booth.

Sabine comes back to the bar and places an order for her newest customers.  Leaning into your ear, she whispers, “He just texted me to say he might be stopping by.  You’ll get to meet him!”

You are beginning to wonder if her sharp features and sparkling emerald eyes have distracted you from the fact that she is totally insane.  “When is he coming?”  This time your voice is hard and you don’t try to hide it.

“Right now.  He says you’re welcome to go out dancing with us when I get off.”

“That’s generous of him,” you say sarcastically.

She looks at you with concern.  “He’s a really nice guy.  You’re going to love him.”

“I didn’t come her tonight to meet your boyfriend,” you say, hoping the bartender doens’t overhear.

“What,” she asks.

“Never mind,” you say.

The bartender brings her table’s drinks and she places them on a tray and is off again.

In the back corner of the gay bar, she picked up your hand and exclaimed, “Oh, your hands are so pretty and tiny!”  Her fingers traced yours, turned your rings to face out properly, and then finally lifted your hand to her lips. Slowly, she kissed the back of your hand, then turned it over and placed a long kiss on the palm.  You felt her touch all the way down to your toes.

With your other hand, you touched her lips and then leaned in and kissed her.  Tasting like candy and fresh water, you breathe her in and let your tongue dance with hers.

“I think we should get out of here,” she said.

“Want to have a drink at my place,” you asked, amazed that this sensuous creature appeared out of nowhere to love you.   She picks up her bag and the two of you walk out to the parking lot hand-in-hand.

“I think I should go,” you say when she returns.

“Why?  Don’t go!  You just got here.”

She doesn’t seem to understand why you don’t want to meet this guy.  Was she drunk the night you hooked up?  On drugs?  It would be impossible to know.  After all, you were strangers when you met.  You really know nothing about her.

Finishing the second drink quickly, you feel the alcohol burning through you.  Since you are petite and didn’t eat dinner, the alcohol is unusually strong.   “You know why I don’t want to meet him,” you say with a force that surprises you.

Her smile leaves her lips for a moment and you see her debating with herself.  She sits next to you once more and grabs one of your hands.  “I don’t think there has to be any drama.”

You don’t know what that means and tell her so.

“I want to be your friend,” she says.

“I want to be your friend, too,” and you do.

“So I want you to meet the people in my life.”

“Why,” you ask, finally drunk enough to have no filter.

“Because you’re amazing,” she says lamely.  But you have figured out the truth between the words she is saying.  Instead of facing the intensity of your love, she wants to bury the memory of that night.  She needs you to meet her boy “distraction” in order to reconfirm her heterosexuality.  If you are friends, she doesn’t have to question why that night happened or what it means.

She was the one who asked you to get the strap-on out.  She demanded you fuck her until she came and you did.  She put it on and fucked you directly after.  She was the aggressor.  She knew exactly what she wanted and made it happen.  She chose to sit on your face until your tongue, lips, chin and nose hit all of her secret spots and made her gush sweetness all over your face, neck and chest.  She was the one who held you so close while you slept that you couldn’t excise yourself to go to the bathroom.  And, she was the one who woke you with the light flicker of her tongue on your inner thigh.

When she left, you thought she’d come back.

You look directly into her eyes and smile goodbye, then walk out the doors into the night.

KEEP YOUR COLOR - TIPS FOR MAKING YOUR HAIR DYE LAST

“I read in a magazine that there are salons now where you can get your hair colored with natural eco-friendly dye.  Do you think that’s better than the color you get in normal salons?”

I am having an early Thai feast with my man and our friend, J.P.  A brilliant make-up artist, naturalist, and vegan, J.P. seems the perfect person to ask whether or not it is time for my color to join the green movement and go “natural.”  Besides, she has long, gorgeous hair and her color is always perfect.

“That’s just the marketing rage, these days,” she says with a sigh.  “Everything has to be green and organic.  But, no, I wouldn’t bother.  The natural dyes are hennas and limited in color.  Plus they don’t last as long.”

“What about the chemicals in hair color,” I ask.  “My next door neighbor swears her mom got cancer from dying her hair too often.”

“All the cancerous stuff they took out of dyes in the early ’80s,” J.P. says as she brushes her long locks back over her shoulder.  “Look, I only dye my hair 4 times a year and that won’t hurt you.”

From my dinner with J.P, I learned that when hair is colored less frequently,  exposure to harmful chemicals and the risk of cancer is also reduced.  So, it is in our interest, dear readers, to do what we can to make our color last until better natural dyes are produced.

TIPS FOR MAKING YOUR HAIR COLOR LAST

1.  SHAMPOO ONLY WHEN YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO
Washing your hair with shampoo is the fastest way to make your color fade.  Each shampoo strips hair of color, which is why if you goof on your hair color and make it too dark, stylists recommend washing it with shampoo until the lighter color you want is achieved.  Avoid shampooing, and just rinse your hair with conditioner, which will “wash” your hair and strengthen it from any chemical damage.

2.  IF YOU MUST SHAMPOO, USE A COLOR SHAMPOO
Shampoo manufacturers have created shampoos specifically for color treated hair.  Pantene’s line is nice and inexpensive.  Just pick out the shampoo that matches your color (blonde, red, brunette) and make sure to throw away your other color-stripping shampoos.

3.  USE A COLOR CONDITIONER AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK
As I have written before, because my hair is very dry and curly, I NEVER wash my hair except when I am at the salon getting it colored or cut.  I do, however, alternate conditioners when I shower.   I love Pantene’s line color conditioners and have had excellent results with their line for red hair.  I put the conditioner in as soon as I get in the shower and leave it in until I am about to get out.  After I towel-dry, I add some moisturizing conditioner into my hair to style it, and my color stays.

4.  ONLY COLD/WARM WATER SHOULD TOUCH YOUR HAIR
Hot water is another great enemy to your color.  Avoid hot water at all costs as it strips and damages hair.  Try rinsing your hair in cold water for a week and see how much shinier, well-moisturized and strong it becomes.

5.  CONDITION YOUR HAIR BEFORE SWIMMING IN CHLORINATED WATER
Summer is a tough time for chemically-treated hair.  Swimming in chlorinated water will strip your color faster than you can read this sentence.  In order to protect it, before you enter the pool, run conditioner through your hair and tie it in a bun (if your hair is short, just run conditioner through it.)  The conditioner will “seal” your hair and protect it from the chlorine.  Make sure to rinse with fresh water as soon as you are done swimming.

6.  SUNLIGHT DAMAGES COLOR, TOO
Make sure to wear sun hats to cover your hair on sunny days, as direct sunlight can strip hair color.  You may want to use a hair masque product with SPF to protect your color, too.

And, of course, if you really want to avoid the chemicals in hair dye and make your natural color last as long it can,  just don’t color your hair…  But that’s not so fun, now, is it?
