IS YOUR WATER DESTROYING YOUR COMPLEXION?
Written by Miss Bliss on March 10, 2008 – 7:26 am -
“You make all of your skin care products at home?”
Telia, a professional make-up artist, vegan chef, and dear friend, nods. “With skin care the number one thing is how pure your water is.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, the water in Los Angeles is bad - you’ve tasted it. After you cleanse your face, any chemicals in your water supply will be on your face. So after I cleanse, I use rose water to rehydrate my skin while removing any residual chemicals. Then I add a moisturizing essential oil to seal all the moisture in.”
Telia is a little older than I am, and her skin is simply flawless. Many of the women who work with her say they cannot get over how gorgeous she is. So if there is someone to trust when it comes to natural skin care, Telia is the girl in the know.
My skin is always worse in LA then when I am in New York, which made me think Telia might just be onto something. Luckily, my man bought a bottle of Keihl’s rosewater the year before, so I already had the necessary materials to test Telia’s technique.
After using Suki’s all-natural, vegan, non-allergenic Lemongrass cleanser, I rinsed my skin with tap water, dried then re-moistened and cleansed my face with Keihl’s rosewater. Afterwards, I took the soaked cottonball, added a few drops of Suki’s essential moisturizing oil, and again, swept the cottonball over my face. I repeated this process for a week, and my skin got clearer with each day.
If you don’t want to change your products or your skincare regime, here’s one more tip:
The more water you drink, the better your skin will look. Often in the winter, we drink more caffeine and less pure, clean water. Dehydration can be causing your skin to show more fine lines or be making you break out more often. So drink another bottle of water! Your skin will glow because of it.
XOXOXOXOXOXO

This couldn’t have come at a better time. For some reason my face has been breaking out more often as I have gotten older and I was looking for some natural remedy to help clear my skin. Thank you, I will try this regimen and let you know how it goes. Plus, I know I have to drink more water!

Both my boyfriend and best guy pal have been obsessed with skin care this week. I’ll forward this on to them and experiment with the rosewater myself. Thank you, Bliss!

If your readers do drink more water, I highly recommend NOT drinking tap water. See below:

This is all so true! I decided to go on a diet and completely cut off soda ( I stopped drinking tea too after I found out my favorite had Fructose corn syrup in it).
So I drank a lot of water everyday. Well I ended up spending a lot of money on bottled water because the tap water here in Arizona is just simply disgusting.
Until one day I decided to see what would happen if I boiled the tap water and fill it in a gallon container.
It tastes AMAZING!
About a week after that one of my co-workers noticed that my skin was not only clearer but brighter and smoother! I didn’t even tell her about the diet change!
Now it’s been a month since then and I’ve lost 2 pant sizes too!
Water really is an amazing thing! It can do wonders not only on your skin but your body too!

Yes, my skin has gotten steadily worse since moving to LA… great tips!
I also suggest a water filter shower head. I use Rainshow’r (do a Google search, as you can’t buy it straight from the manufacturer). You just unscrew your shower head, screw on the filter, then put the shower head on the filter. I noticed that my skin was much less dry after using the filter for a week.
And as long as we’re on the topic of natural skin care products - I’ll sing the praises of 100% jojoba oil. I swear it’s a miracle in a bottle! Unlike common vegetable oils, jojoba oil is chemically very similar to human sebum, so your skin loves it. And you can use it for TONS of things. It’s a great makeup remover. Put some on a cotton pad and wipe away foundation, eyeshadow, even waterproof masacra! Leaves your skin wonderfully moisturized and ‘preps’ it to be washed. Add a drop to your regular moisturizer, or I’ve found that with a couple drops, I don’t even need moisturizer anymore, just the jojoba! Anyone with oily skin or acne (like me…) this may seem bad, but let me tell you, since I started using it, my skin produces less oil and breaks out less (jojoba doesn’t clog pores like your natural oils do!). Also, smoothing some directly on a patch of eczema helped heal it in a matter of days. And for hair, add a few drops to your conditioner to help when your hair is dry, or smooth a drop in your hands and run over dry hair to keep flyaways in place. It conditions cuticles too!
Okay, if you can’t tell, I love the stuff. Just want to share that with all the beauties out there!
