The LA LGBT Center launched the website on November 7 to support the fight to invalidate Prop 8. The effort offers donors an opportunity to contribute while sending a message to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which played a leading role in funding the deceptive Yes on 8 campaign. For each donation of $5 or more at InvalidateProp8.org, the Center sends Thomas Monson, president of the Mormon church, a postcard to let him know a donation was made in his name to fund legal and grass-roots efforts supporting marriage equality.
The contributions have poured in from nearly all 50 states and from countries around the world including Canada, Mexico, Australia, Denmark, England, Germany, Japan, Singapore and South Africa.
